Island Hill
Island Hill Causeway
Again, more beauty on our doorstep. Technically Island Hill is the land where the car park is situated and where you access the causeway; the island itself is actually called Rough Island. But locals (who arguably know best) usually call the whole place Island Hill as lots just park up for a quick picnic, but in low-tide it's always worth a short walk across the causeway and round the island at least once. However, the walk is still long enough that if you start near high tide you may find your way back hidden under a few inches of Strangford Lough, so best check the tide times before this one (and our unofficial advice is that given the nature of this flat and narrow mouthed lough, tide-times here are almost a couple of hours behind those listed for Belfast or nearby).
We of course had to have our first family motorhome picnic here on a wet weekend, and of course took a few rainy photos of this beautiful site and surrounds which may (or may not) sill be the background to our homepage.
